Mesocycle 1 - Muscle Endurance



Cathe Friedrich’s STS is a total body strength training program that gives you a different workout every day for over three months. STS is based on the latest scientific principles and training techniques including periodization, muscle confusion and one rep max. STS is just like having your own personal trainer.

Mesocycle 1 is all about muscle endurance. You will lift weights that are 60-70% of your 1RM during these four weeks. Each week will feature a different workout for every muscle group. Your rep range will be around 15 reps or more for most exercises, but to total failure for many others like push-ups, pull-ups and band work. This cycle is divided into three muscle groupings with four workouts per grouping: 1) Chest, Shoulders and Biceps (Discs 1,4, 7, 10), 2) Back and Triceps (Discs 2, 5, 8, 11), 3) Legs (Discs 3, 6, 9, 12).

These non-stop workouts are sure to test the endurance of even advanced exercisers and feature training concepts like drop sets, 21s and rest periods of 30-45 seconds between exercises. You will do one set for each muscle group and have only about 30 seconds rest before the next body part.

STS is a three-day-per-week strength training program. We suggest you allow at least one day off between STS workout to allow your body adequate time to recover (e.g. M-W-F or T-TH-S). Each week you will do two upper body DVDs and one lower body DVD. If necessary you may do any upper body and lower body workout on consecutive days. You may, and should, do your favorite cardio workouts on off days or even double up your cardio and STS workouts on the same day.


Mesocycle #1 uses the lightest weights with the most repetitions (15 or more reps per set). It's designed to increase stamina and build muscle endurance. You get four workouts for each body area -- four "Chest, Shoulders and Biceps," four "Back and Triceps" and four "Legs." Each workout has 18 to 38 different exercises. As you’d expect from Cathe, they’re all advanced level and exceptionally well-cued. Requires dumbbells, barbells, a resistance band, an X-ertube, a stability ball, an inclinable bench and a step. A pull-up bar is optional.


I got these off Usenet as full DVDs, and have ripped them to XviD
I only took the first 4 discs (although all 40 are on there), which is the complete workout for week 1. Reviews have suggested, and I've confirmed by looking at disc 4, that the rest of them are very similar to this. The cool-down is identical for each disc in the series, and each week merely adjusts the weight/reps to increase the workout by about 5%.

Mesocycle 1 consists of 12 discs, as does Mesocycle 2, while Mesocycle 3 is 16 discs. Massive!! I don't expect to take any more of these other than the week one workouts. I'm planning on adjusting those by adding weights/reps each week and then moving on to the next cycle.

Cathe Friedrich's STS Ab Circuits DVDRip



This is actually disc #41 in the series. There is no warm up routine included on this DVD; Cathe seems to just expect you to do your own warm-up. I've ripped each part separately so you can pick and choose which pieces you want. Specs are the same for each, so you can join them together in any order using VirtualDub/Avidemux etc, or you can just do one after the other if you prefer. Each segment is about 20 minutes long.
If I'd just left it as a complete 2 hour-long workout it would be a killer!!
